Whispers….Glimpses…Fragments
Sandy loves the sense of mystery left in a painting, not
spelling out each detail. She uses a glazing or layering
process of fluid acrylic paint along with mediums, sands and
miscellaneous materials, creating texture, using symbolism,
color and line. She enjoys leaving the viewer enough space to
create their own stories in her paintings. Her art work
expresses a whisper, a glimpse, a fragment, a meditative
thought, just as each moment of our lives is but a small
glimpse into the whole.
She has been painting for about 30 years. Sandy has found that
her art work has become a way of life and is more about the
journey than the destination. It is continually evolving as
she grows not only as an artist but as a person.
Sandy lives in Manchester, Michigan with her husband, John.
Her work is usually accompanied by his wonderful hand rubbed
frames of cherry, Brazilian cherry and maple.

Artist Statement:
My body of work deals with the
mysteries and complexities of daily life and circumstances.
In my painting process, the picture plane becomes a field to
convey fragments of my emotions and thoughts. I explore
this concept using transparent layering techniques. In
order to give the painting a sense of history and complexity,
I build textures using mediums, calligraphy, papers, sand and
cloth. My intent is for these paintings to become an
unveiling, an exploratory dig so to speak, of deeper issues
of life brewing under the surface that eventually make their
way to the picture plane.
